On October 14, Reuters reported that Google is facing a legal challenge in the United States, demanding the company open up its Play Store to promote market competition. In the face of this adverse situation, Google has urgently requested a California federal judge to suspend the execution of the comprehensive court order to avoid irreparable harm to the company.

In a court filing submitted late Friday, Google expressed its concerns about the injunction, scheduled to come into effect on November 1. The injunction was issued by U.S. District Judge James Donato on October 7 in a case brought by "Fortnite" maker Epic Games. Google argues that the enforcement of the injunction would severely harm its business interests and could pose significant risks to the security, safety, and privacy of the Android ecosystem.

The judge's order mandates that Google allow users to download and utilize alternative third-party Android application platforms or stores, while lifting restrictions on competitive in-app payment methods. Additionally, Google is prohibited from paying device manufacturers to pre-install its app store and is barred from sharing revenue generated by the Play Store with other app distributors. These demands undoubtedly present a significant challenge to Google's existing business model.

Faced with this dire situation, Google has appealed to Judge Donato to suspend the execution of the injunction during the appeal process. However, if Judge Donato denies this request, Google will have to file an application with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco seeking further legal relief. Notably, Google submitted a notice of appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court on Thursday, indicating its resolute opposition to the injunction.

Currently, it remains uncertain how the appeals court will ultimately weigh and rule on Google's challenge to Donato's order. This incident has sparked industry concerns about Google's monopolistic position in the Play Store, and has brought new challenges to the future development of the Android ecosystem.
