Not long ago, new breakthroughs were made in chip technology in the United States. Although it is only at the laboratory level and cannot be converted into industrial productionThis also means that the United States has made significant achievements in the field of chips, while in contrast, China's chip research and development situation is not very good.
Huawei is the one that has suffered the most from chips in China.Because Huawei has developed well and has become a strong competitor to Apple, the United States has resolutely sanctioned Huawei in the chip field to protect its own company. Previously, Huawei's phones used chips made in the United States, but now the United States has stopped selling them to Huawei, causing difficulties in production for Huawei's phones. Later, it simply sold the glory to other companies.
Huawei learned from the painful experience and began to develop its own chips. Huawei's self-developed chip, called Haisi, had already achieved initial results and could be used on some mobile phones, but due to technological lockdowns, it could no longer be produced.
Besides Huawei, Xiaomi also wanted to make its own chips
In addition to Huawei, Xiaomi, and domestic brands Oppo, they have also joined the army of chip research and development. But in the end, it also failed.
A small chip has stumped many large companies in China. Many people don't understand why our country cannot produce chips. In fact, chips over 20 nanometers can be produced in China, but higher precision chips cannot be produced in China, mainly because the production equipment is not advanced enough.
To produce high-precision chips, high-precision equipment needs to be used. Currently, a European company is capable of producing this equipment, and the United States also imports equipment from this European company for chip production.
The United States is undoubtedly the largest customer of this European company, as the current number of chips produced by American companies is the highest in the world. At the request of the United States, this company chose to join the United States and not sell equipment to Chinese companies, which has greatly hindered the chip manufacturing of Chinese companies.
A few days ago, OPPO stopped chip research and development due to various issues such as funding investment. Prior to this, OPPO had already invested tens of billions of research funds in chip development. Although the sales of OPPO phones have always been good, OPPO cannot persist even without seeing any benefits for a long time.
OPPO's old friend vivo has also invested a lot of funds to develop chips, but has not achieved substantial research success.
China still has a long way to go in chip research and development. Chips cannot be abandoned, otherwise it will make the United States happy. They will never be lenient to Chinese companies just because China abandons chip research and development. On the contrary, it will become even more difficult for Chinese companies to allocate the majority of profits to American chip companies. Without chips, we have no pricing power.
But it is also impossible to develop chips similar to those in the United States in the short term, after all, if it were that simple, then many companies in China would not be as defeated as before.
Firstly, we still need to increase investment, and the government needs to provide support in this area. After all, chip research and development is a very expensive business, and relying solely on enterprises may drag them down because we have fallen too far in this area.
Secondly, we should not only focus on chips, but also on the research and development of the machines that make them. Without a good lithography machine, chip development cannot be successful, and the technology of lithography machines is not in our hands. Even if we master chip technology, we cannot do it without lithography machines. The sanctions imposed by the United States on China's chips are across the entire industry chain, and we also need to comprehensively break through.
The difficulty of chip development is beyond imagination. The most important thing is that the technical threshold is too high. Improving China's technological level requires too much manpower and financial resources.
From the perspective of manpower, in fact, China is not completely without them. After all, there are currently six Chinese materials experts in the top ten globally, but Chinese people are no longer available, and many of our high-tech talents cannot be retained.
Chinese students are excellent and world-class, but some of the scientific research achievements of Chinese scientists cannot reach world-class standards because we have too many excellent students going abroad, and then our technology cannot develop.
In the past, we always advocated the spirit of patriotism and demanded that research workers be patriotic. Should we change our mindset and ask these researchers what are the reasons for choosing to go abroad? How can China's research environment be better so as to retain and even attract talents.
The research of chips cannot do without talent, and China's revival also cannot do without talent. Currently, the research and development of chips in China has reached a point where enterprises cannot afford to invest and a large amount of research and development funds have been wasted. However, chips still need to be developed, and the country must find ways.
