Pinch memory! Collage images! Is the phone so rolled up? What new tricks can domestic manufacturers come up with?

The sensor area of the mobile phone has reached one inch, and the ground mounted wired fast charging has also reached 240W. In addition to the constantly mature folding screen technology and the second generation Snapdragon 8, which has exploded in toothpaste this year, the excellent software and hardware strength not only brings a smoother user experience, but also reduces the reason for users to switch devices. In addition, with the severe homogenization of mobile phones, in order to enhance users' desire to switch devices, various manufacturers can only come up with something different, or have sufficient reasons to persuade (impress) users to purchase.
But how else can each family take the exam?
Performance?
This is a cruel fact, there are only two options for hardware, Qualcomm or MediaTek. The former has stood up again after experiencing the two generations of Snapdragon 888 and the first generation Snapdragon 8. The latest second generation Snapdragon 8 is indeed strong, and the latter's reputation has improved in the past two years. However, it also has some say in the mid market. In the face of the high-end market, it can only be said that Fage has great potential.
So the essence of volume performance is the different tuning of the same processor by each company. Take Genshin Impact as an example. At present, the mainstream resolution is 720P. Some can achieve a stable frame rate and a smooth experience. Some have a good start, but when the temperature rises, the frequency and brightness will be reduced. What's more, when it was just released, it was called "proud". Look at my frame rate. A straight line has something to do with it. As a result, after several system versions are updated, the frame rate is more shaking than my ECG (there is no specific manufacturer here).
Screen?
What screen do you have in your home, Samsung, or 2K resolution? Hey! Coincidentally, so is my home. In the past two years, only Samsung and others had mobile phone screens. In the past two years, on the one hand, it was the efforts of domestic screen manufacturers, and on the other hand, it was the result of support from various mobile phone manufacturers. Screen manufacturers such as BOE, Huaxing Optoelectronics, and even Tianma have gradually stood up, and domestic screens have begun to appear on their flagship super large cups.
So how does the screen roll up? Resolution, brightness, refresh rate, viewing angle, strobe (eye protection).
Resolution (PPI)
Behind the resolution is PPI, a term introduced by Apple during the iPhone 4 launch called Retina Screen, which roughly explains that within the range of 25cm to 30cm from the screen to the eye, as long as the PPI is around 300, it is difficult for the human eye to distinguish individual pixels.
Even the current mainstream 1080P "diamond like" screen (cough) has a reduced PPI of around 320, let alone a 1.5K or 2K resolution screen. So if you want to continue scrolling, it's not significant to continue improving resolution, but rather the popularization of 1.5K and 2K resolutions.

Strobe (dimming mode)
Most of the earliest or most familiar dimming methods were DC dimming, which is commonly used on LCD screens. With the gradual popularization of OLED screens, low-frequency PWM dimming has also begun to enter the public's sight. However, low-frequency PWM dimming is harmful to the human eye, and some people with sensitive eyes are more likely to perceive it. Therefore, various manufacturers are gradually using various software and hardware technologies to reduce the uncomfortable impact of stroboscopic flashes.

I hope that all manufacturers can continue to make efforts in eye protection by choosing DC or high-frequency PWM dimming, reducing fluctuation depth, increasing duty cycle, reducing SVM value, and migrating the blue light peak on the screen to a longer wavelength.
Imaging?
Image caption: Tuyuan Weibo @ Digital Chat Station
As for the algorithm, compared to the previous progress, it can be described as exceptionally significant. There is not enough hardware and algorithms to make up for it. It's really not enough, and it's useless to make up for it. Since the launch of DeepFusion on the iPhone, various companies have gone a long way in computing photography. Fortunately, in the past two years, each company has gradually developed its own style, and at least for now, it has been recognized and praised by the market. When the hardware strength is sufficient, computational photography can play its best role.
For mobile photography, in recent years, there has been a slight improvement in hardware to address issues such as glare and ghosting that affect the experience. Various companies have strengthened their anti shake measures, such as using a variable aperture, a telephoto lens, or even a variable optical zoom lens. Algorithmically, it avoids excessive sharpening, enhances brightness, further improves clarity and purity, reduces post production, and enables simple shooting to create a textured and storytelling blockbuster.
In our view, there are two directions for the development of imaging, one is the specialization of imaging, and the other is the popularization of imaging.
The former is ultimate and exploration, such as the camera handle of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Sony's variable optical zoom lens, future larger sensor area, and even the ability to connect external lenses? It should be imaginable.
The latter is inclusive, and mobile phones can be high-end, but imaging cannot. Technology always serves people, and how to make mid-range products have a more comprehensive and flagship imaging experience is something that mobile phone manufacturers should pay attention to. The hardware is the same, but the algorithms are vastly different. Don't ask, if you ask, it means that your buddy is a flagship, and if you're not, using four words to describe it means "strict hierarchy". Periscope telephoto, excellent main camera, uncountable main camera, flagship imaging algorithm, and mid range camera should not be so difficult to have sufficient excellent imaging capabilities.
Video?
Compared to imaging, there are still many areas where domestic manufacturers need to make progress in video recording.
There is actually a very intuitive standard for video shooting, which is to surpass the iPhone. Stable 4K, 60FPS video recording for long periods of time, excellent HDR effect, Dolby visual format, and better video anti shake effect, minimizing or avoiding the occurrence of jelly effect as much as possible.
Charging and battery life?
This was quite detailed in the previous article, so I won't go into too much detail here. Let's briefly explain it.
Let's talk about charging first. The 240W wired fast charging on the ground, combined with a 4600mAh battery, compresses the charging time to single digits, while the 120W+5000mAh combination can also achieve a full charge in 20 minutes. This 10 minute increase can only be said to have some improvement, but it is not significant. Instead of mindlessly compressing the charging time, it is better to increase the bright screen charging speed. Another issue is whether we can unify the fast charging protocol. Without an original charger, the charging power of mobile phones is not insignificant, leaving only two legs. Most mobile phones use non original chargers for charging, and the power is less than 20W. The good news is that the UFCS integrated fast charging protocol launched in 2021 is to solve this problem. The bad news is that there are not many supported devices, and the current power is only around 30W, which can be expected in the future.
As for batteries, most products currently use lithium polymer batteries, specifically graphite negative electrode batteries. However, the energy density of graphite negative electrode batteries is close to the theoretical limit and it is difficult to continue improving. In recent years, some mobile phones have been upgraded to silicon carbon/silicon oxygen negative electrode batteries, which can indeed have higher battery energy density and larger battery capacity. In addition, there are solid-state batteries. The Xiaomi 13 prototype product in Xiaomi Laboratory has a battery capacity of 6000mAh, and we hope to see mass production and implementation soon.
Communication?
Communication is a fundamental feature of mobile phones that cannot be further established, and baseband is the foundation that determines the functionality. However, this thing is integrated into SoC, so everyone understands it. What can manufacturers do? Add antennas and better antenna layout to achieve larger radiation area and higher radiation efficiency improvement. In addition, the RF enhancement chip equipped in the Honor Magic5 series can also enhance the external RF capability and internal signal reception capability of mobile phones, and basic communication is basically like this. What about those that are not basic? Satellite communication technology, including one-way satellite communication last year and two-way satellite communication this year, has started with Huawei, and domestic manufacturers have also started rolling out satellites.
Self developed?
The honor of self-developed RF enhancement chip C1 has already been mentioned above. In recent years, various manufacturers have been passionate about self-developed chips. Xiaomi's surging P1/P2, surging C1, surging G1, OPPO's Mariana X, Mariana Y, and SUPERVOCS, as well as vivo's V1, V1+, and V2, are indeed helpful from the actual use experience of landing products. Each company is not limited to its own flagship products, but also carries self-developed chips on mid range or sub brands.
The path of self-developed chips must be correct. At a large scale, it is to promote the development of the domestic chip industry and the establishment of a talent system. At a small scale, it is to create selling points, highlight our unique advantages, and occupy more market share. There must be more and more self-developed chips.
Design (appearance)?
The beauty and appearance of the appearance are subjective, and there is no standard answer. However, the feel and recognition are relatively objective, so they are also important points for various manufacturers. But in recent years, it has also been roast, and strongly recommended that all families add oil and work hard.
For each super large cup, the large image module is indeed full of recognition, but due to the image module being too large, centering is basically a necessary choice. In addition, the circular shape gives a soft visual feeling, and homogenization of design is inevitable. Therefore, everyone has put some effort into the design of the back cover, various design concepts, various back cover processes and materials, and various color schemes with recognition. However, After putting on the phone case, everyone is the same.
To put it a step further, it was a result of trade-offs and craftsmanship that I couldn't help but endure. But is it okay if you have some design for your mid range model? Don't believe the phrase 'no design is the best design'. So far, I can't forget that when a certain model lifted its rear cover, behind the massive imaging module were two smaller lenses. At first glance, a sentence appeared in my mind: "Big eyes staring small eyes.
There is also a touch, although the flagship aircraft cannot avoid a weight of nearly half a kilogram, don't expect any good touch, but how did you come up with the design of a curved screen with a right angle center frame? Is the thing you designed yourself really useful? There are also mid-range computers that roll up memory and images all day, but you don't mention a single word about plastic frames, screen brackets, and plastic bodies. They claim to reduce weight and prices, but in fact, these things have less selling points compared to images or memory, and their main focus is on compression costs.
The issue of volume memory is not just a simple mention. If you start at 12GB or even 16GB, and your specifications are up, don't mention the starting price. The price of 16GB is the same as that of 8GB, is that all right?
Protection?
What kind of roll can this have? Not to mention it, one is the panel and the other is the dustproof and waterproof of the entire machine. Let's talk about the latter first. One is that all flagship models will be equipped with IP68, and the mid range flagship will also improve its dust and waterproof capabilities. Our protection quality will also be improved.
There is also the panel, which is quite common and indeed impressive is the Corning Gorilla glass panel. The latest GlassVictus 2 officially stated that it can survive a 1-meter simulated concrete surface drop test. Although some decisive hardware manufacturers in China are unable to move forward, this aspect is still possible. Last year, Huawei's Kunlun Glass and this year's Meizu's Titan Glass, according to relevant disclosures, Honor also has Giant Rhinoceros Glass. However, currently only Huawei has mass-produced them. We also look forward to the implementation level of these two companies and whether other manufacturers will follow up.
System?
A few years ago, various systems crazily imitated Apple, and in recent years, they have also developed their own unique characteristics. Radish and green vegetables, each with their own preferences, likes and dislikes, are purely subjective feelings. However, bloating, stuttering, and advertising are all intuitive discomfort. With the increase in user demand and the inevitability of comprehensive functionality, bloating is inevitable. Therefore, various companies are also starting to shave, simplify, and improve fluency. It may sound good, but the fact has proven that there is a lot of room for improvement.
How to say the issue of advertising? Making money is not a shame, after all, hardware profits are relatively poor for everyone, but let's forget about your flagship phone. If you buy a phone for thousands, you still need to search for ads and conquer them one by one. This is still comparable to Flyme. The "Three Zero System" of Meizu 18 directly means that there are no ads, and the newly released Flyme 10 can hardly see ads after experiencing it, and it also supports disabling acceleration sensor permissions, True conscience, take a look at Flyme.
If the above is about correction, then the next step is about improvement and progress.
For example, accessibility mode, loss mode, and so on. In fact, many digital bloggers have already produced very comprehensive videos about these functions. The advantages and disadvantages of each have been explained in detail, so we will not go into detail. We also hope that each manufacturer will strive to improve these functions. In other words, technology always serves people. As for the interconnection of mobile devices or vehicle computers, it has been a key focus in the past two years, and we hope that all parties will continue to work hard.
After sales?
The after-sales service is definitely very, very important, especially offline after-sales and service. Can we quickly understand and provide a detailed solution to the problem, ensure that the data of the mobile phone is not damaged during the repair process, and provide backup devices if the replacement time is too long? These are actually the most basic services. In the face of some objective process and batch problems, we actively solve and provide appropriate solutions without shirking or evading, and whether after-sales stores can cover most urban areas, To avoid fewer users having to deal with after-sales service online, and so on, there are actually many areas where various companies can improve their after-sales service. They also hope to provide products while providing better after-sales service.
summary
There are indeed many aspects to scrolling, but most of them are experiential leaps, and leaps are actually more of a selling point, a breakthrough, a symbol of strength and heritage. These things are not something that ordinary users will care about. Of course, technologies like solid-state batteries that can significantly improve battery life are practical and strong, but it is still a bit difficult for you to implement them at present. In addition, some of the directions we mentioned above are not particularly suitable to be described as "rolling". They are more like decentralization or popularization, and belong to areas that manufacturers can do or have the ability to do, but have not yet taken into account.
In 2023, mobile phones are no longer the device that only provides basic communication. In addition to audiovisual entertainment, gaming and office, better performance, and superior imaging capabilities, they can also connect to devices such as tablets, PCs, smart homes, cars, etc. The requirements for mobile phones from users and the market are also increasing. Hardware is important, but not just hardware. Manufacturers are not simply integrating their supply chains, but also need to optimize and adjust their software. After sales and system maintenance are equally important.
