On May 26th, a reporter from Science and Technology Daily arrived at China's first demonstration project of full road transportation energy integration, the Zaohe Expressway Traffic Energy Integration Demonstration Project, located in the Jinxiang Service Area of Shandong Zaohe Expressway. The project is invested by Gezhouba Group Transportation Investment Co., Ltd., and jointly contracted and constructed by China Energy Construction Group Guangdong Electric Power Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. and China Energy Construction Group Shanxi Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. Experts from China Energy Construction Gezhouba Transportation Investment Company told reporters that the project is the first to integrate transportation and energy, creating a new model for the integrated development of transportation and energy.
Why integrate transportation and energy development? What are the difficulties in the construction of the first demonstration project for the integration of transportation and energy across all roads in China? Promoting the integration of transportation and energy development can expand the scope of renewable energy utilization; At the same time, the continuous development of new energy has also made it possible to implement some new transportation technologies.
In recent years, the Ministry of Transport and the Energy Department of China have fully considered the transmission characteristics of fuel, electricity, and green energy, and continuously explored the overall layout and construction of new energy transportation facilities. The concept of co construction and sharing has been integrated into the transportation infrastructure, improving the utilization efficiency of transportation facilities and reducing energy resource consumption on the one hand.
With the development and maturity of new energy technologies such as optical storage integration, as well as the successful application of various new materials in solar photovoltaic power generation, transmission, and storage, energy exchange integration has gradually become possible. The integration of transportation and energy equipment may become one of the important infrastructure for transportation construction.
On May 11th, the inaugural meeting of the China Highway Society Transportation and Energy Integration Development Working Committee, jointly organized by the China Highway Society and China Energy Construction Group Co., Ltd., was held. The reporter noticed that the conference released the "Integrated Solution for Transportation and Energy Integration", which summarized the two prominent problems faced by the transportation industry: "difficult power supply" and "pseudo low-carbon", pointed to the practical challenges of transportation and energy integration, and proposed solutions.
The Zaohe Expressway Energy Integration Demonstration Project is one of the typical examples of the implementation of this plan.
It is reported that the above projects utilize the potential of highway infrastructure such as service areas and roadside slopes to develop new energy on site, install distributed photovoltaic, wind energy storage and other equipment, and generate electricity for self use. The remaining electricity can also be connected to the internet. This project integrates the systems of the new energy and highway industries, achieving the integration of source network, load storage, and vehicle road energy cloud, and continuously providing green and clean energy for infrastructure and transportation vehicles, "said Gao Kang, the technical director of the Zaohe Expressway Energy Integration Demonstration Project.
Layout of photovoltaic power generation facilities along the highway
The closure and uniqueness of highways determine their dependence on energy. However, there are currently few highway projects in China that use solar photovoltaic power generation. Introducing photovoltaic power generation projects can not only alleviate the energy pressure in highway service areas, reduce fossil energy consumption, improve resource and energy utilization efficiency, but also vigorously promote technological innovation in photovoltaic power generation, provide a landing environment for new photovoltaic projects, and promote the development of the new energy industry.
At present, the main application of solar photovoltaic power generation in highway service areas is mostly concentrated in small and medium-sized load equipment, such as lighting, monitoring, testing equipment, small generators, etc. In addition, with the increase of new energy vehicles, future photovoltaic power generation can provide charging services for new energy vehicles in highway service areas.
However, laying out photovoltaic power generation facilities along highways is not simple.
Before the establishment of the Zaohe Expressway Energy Integration Demonstration Project, some transportation experts were concerned that the construction of high-speed slopes would have adverse effects on slope stability, slope vegetation, etc. The light reflection of solar photovoltaic panels may interfere with the driver's line of sight. In the event of a vehicle rushing out of the isolation fence, the high-voltage electrical facilities on the roadside may cause secondary harm to the driver.
In 2020, the Ministry of Transport issued an opinion encouraging the rational layout of photovoltaic power generation facilities along highways such as service areas and slopes, and grid connected power supply with municipal electricity. China Energy Construction Gezhouba Transportation Investment Company has seen the potential to carry out transportation and energy integration projects from highways.
According to Li Bin, the head of China Energy Construction Gezhouba Investment New Energy Company, Shandong is rich in solar radiation resources with an average annual sunshine time of over 2000 hours; The terrain along the Zaohe Expressway is flat and open, and there are sufficient road resources available for use, making it more suitable to develop photovoltaic power stations.
To eliminate safety hazards, China Energy Construction Group Gezhouba Transportation Investment Co., Ltd. commissioned the Planning and Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport to conduct a safety assessment and demonstration. In the laboratory, researchers took different forms of transportation and simulated different sitting positions, action curves, and glare angles. After more than 100 repeated experiments over a year, a safety assessment report was finally used to eliminate everyone's concerns.
Gao Kang emphasized to reporters: "The implementation of this project can improve the self-sufficiency rate of clean energy on highways, achieve electrification of transportation and decarbonization of electricity." Moreover, this is the first time in China to install a solar power generation project on the roadside of highways, which not only achieves 100% power supply in the Jinxiang service area, but also allows surplus electricity to be connected to the grid.
Intelligent platform integrated regulation of source network load and storage
In the Jinxiang Expressway service area, wisps of sunlight converge on the photovoltaic car shed, vertical axis fans, and roof photovoltaic panels, achieving 100% "green electricity" supply throughout the service area. The reporter will place the phone on the wireless charging table, and it will soon be "resurrected with full blood"; In an unmanned supermarket, you only need to scan the QR code and make payment with the product on the machine; In more than ten minutes, the electric car was fully charged.
It is understood that when the sun is abundant, the zero carbon electricity of the Zaohe Expressway Energy Integration Demonstration Project will be stored and used on demand, in addition to being generated and used on demand.
In fact, these are not yet the 'most hardcore' applications. The integrated intelligent platform of Zaohe high-speed transportation and energy integration is the 'intelligent brain' of transportation and energy integration. Gao Kang said that it can integrate information and intelligently regulate energy networks, transportation networks, and digital networks.
A core function of the Zaohe Expressway Energy Integration Intelligent Platform is the integrated regulation of source, grid, load, and storage. It can coordinate and control the photovoltaic, energy storage, electricity load, and power grid of the entire high-speed area, making "green electricity" priority for consumption and utilization within the entire high-speed area.
