Yesterday, one case of Monkeypox virus infection was found and confirmed in Tianjin. So far, 5 cases of Monkeypox virus infection were confirmed nationwide in July. Third level health departments and disease control centers in various regions have quickly carried out epidemiological investigations and medical treatment for epidemic response work. At present, all 5 patients undergoing isolation treatment in designated medical institutions are in stable condition.

"Monkeypox is a zoonotic viral disease caused by Monkeypox virus infection." Dang Shuangsuo, Chief physician of the Department of Infection of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, told the reporter of "Global Times Health Client" that the virus was first discovered from monkeys for research in 1958, so the disease was named "Monkeypox". Monkeypox has been mainly prevalent in monkeys in the rainforests of central and western Africa, and can also infect squirrels, kangaroos, dormice rats, or other rodents, occasionally infecting humans. Human monkeypox cases first appeared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) in 1970.

The main routes of human infection with Monkeypox virus include: animal to human transmission, such as direct contact with the body fluid, blood or pus of infected animals, or being scratched or bitten by them; Interpersonal transmission is mainly among Gay sexual practices. Other ways include contacting the infected person's damaged skin, using clothes, bedding, towels or tableware contaminated by the virus, or passing from the pregnant woman to the fetus through the placenta. Therefore, medical workers, family members and Sexual partner of the infected person are high-risk groups.

Last May, the monkeypox epidemic began to break out in non epidemic areas such as Europe and the Americas, and spread to Asian countries. At the end of May, the World Health Organization assessed the global public health risk of monkeypox as moderate, and on June 14th, new guidelines for monkeypox vaccination were released. On July 23, WHO held a press conference in Geneva, and Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that the monkeypox epidemic would be listed as a "public health emergency of international concern". In the following nearly a year, more than 110 countries and regions around the world have successively discovered cases of monkeypox. However, on May 11th this year, the World Health Organization announced that the monkeypox epidemic no longer constitutes a "public health emergency of international concern".

Party Shuangsuo said that although the risk of the public being infected with monkeypox is relatively low, everyone should still actively understand the relevant knowledge of Monkeypox virus, improve the level of awareness and awareness of prevention and control, and do a good job in personal health protection. At present, there is no specific drug or vaccine for Monkeypox virus in clinic. Since Monkeypox virus and smallpox virus belong to the same "family", Smallpox vaccine can also prevent monkeypox infection. According to WHO data, the prevention efficiency of Smallpox vaccine against Monkeypox virus has reached 85%.

In terms of prevention, Party Double Lock suggests that close contact with people infected with monkeypox should be avoided as much as possible, and necessary protective measures should be taken when engaging in sexual activity. In daily life, it is important to wash hands frequently, clean and disinfect. WHO reminds that people going to monkeypox endemic countries should avoid contact with rodents, marsupials or primates that may carry Monkeypox virus without protection, avoid eating or handling wild game, and the meat must be thoroughly cooked. If you accidentally come into contact with animals or infected individuals carrying the virus, thoroughly wash your hands with soap or alcohol containing hand sanitizer, and then seek medical attention as soon as possible. If there is a history of contact with suspicious animals, personnel, or monkeypox cases, and there is fever or unexplained rash, timely medical attention should also be sought from a reputable hospital.
