CCTV News(News broadcast): Yan Kaiqi is a researcher of the Institute of Physical and Chemical Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He and his team have developed a new type of buoyancy material that can withstand the pressure of 10000 meters deep sea, contributing youth to the deep-sea journey.

During this National Day holiday, Yan Kaiqi and his team conducted structural analysis and data collection on the deep-sea buoyancy material just sampled.

Deep submersibles can move up and down freely in the water, and buoyancy materials are indispensable. In the structure of the "Struggler", seven become buoyancy materials.

This bottle, which looks like milk, is actually composed of 10 billion solid hollow glass microspheres with a diameter similar to that of a human hair. The combination of hollow glass microspheres and polymer substrates becomes a high-pressure buoyancy resistant material.

Serving a major country, Yan Kaiqi needs to ensure that every glass microsphere with a diameter as small as a hair thread is stable and reliable. His challenge is to make the "Struggler" withstand the pressure of tens of thousands of meters of deep sea, which is equivalent to over 2000 elephants pressing on human bodies.

After thousands of days and nights of hard work, Yan Kaiqi and his team did not give up in the face of a two-year stagnation period in the glass microsphere compression test.

Adjust the parameters and start from scratch. In order to verify the differences between laboratory results and practical application scenarios, Yan Kaiqi also went to Hainan three times and drifted at sea for more than 40 days, collecting key experimental data.

The courage to shoulder difficulties in order to meet the needs of the country is the "seed" that Yan Kaiqi planted in his heart during his academic period.

From participating in the research and development of buoyancy materials for the "Deep Sea Warrior" to serving as the deputy chief designer of the "Struggler" structural system, Yan Kaiqi has been challenged time and time again. In his view, the new era has given young people a broader stage, and in the face of scientific research challenges, young people should bravely become pioneers and live up to expectations.
