On October 11th, during the 2023 Global Mobile Broadband Forum, Cao Ming, President of Huawei Wireless Network Product Line, released the world's first full series 5G-A (5G-Advanced technology is an extension and enhancement of 5G, reporter's note) product solution. This series of product solutions will provide ten times the network capacity through innovation in broadband, multi frequency, multi antenna, intelligence, green, and other aspects.

In the past four years of commercial use, the 5G industry has developed at an unprecedented speed. The implementation of 5G applications has become a new driving force for shifting and accelerating the digital economy. 5G new experiences, new connections, and new businesses are constantly emerging.

At present, 5G-A is at the right time to accelerate the upgrading of the five major connections of people, home, goods, industry, and vehicles by providing ten times the network capacity and multi-dimensional new capabilities.

5.5G is a transitional stage between 5G and 6G. With the continuous growth of 5G business scale and the acceleration of digitization and intelligence, it is a communication technology planned for the period from 2025 to 2030, which enhances and expands 5G application scenarios. Specifically, 5.5G is expected to increase its downlink and uplink transmission rates by 10 times compared to 5G, with a network access rate of 10Gbps (10G bits per second, equivalent to a download rate of 1.25G per second), while ensuring millisecond level latency.

According to the definition of the International Standards Organization 3GPP, there are six technical standards from R15 to R20 between 5G and 6G, with R15 to R17 being the first stage of the 5G standard and R18 to R20 being the second stage of the 5G standard. In April 2021, the 5G international standard-setting organization 3GPP officially defined the R18 protocol version as 5.5G, marking that the need for 5G evolution has become a consensus in the industry. In China, the IMT-2020 (5G) promotion team and operators have actively invested in innovative research and testing validation of 5.5G, and have gradually moved from key technology innovation to cross industry cooperation and innovation for application scenarios.
