In the development process of world science and technology, female scientific and technological talents have played an important role. According to statistics released by the China Association for Science and Technology on the eve of the conference, over 33% of global scientific research workers are women, and there are about 40 million female scientific and technological talents in China, accounting for over 40%.

According to statistics from the United Nations, approximately one-third of researchers worldwide are female, and 30% of university students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are female. Women account for 25% of scientific, engineering, and information and communication technology positions worldwide.

The dialogue held on the 13th was jointly organized by the United Nations Development Programme in China and the China Association of Women Science and Technology Workers. Domestic and foreign guests from the government, private sector, research institutions, and international organizations gathered to deeply explore the barriers and reasons for women's participation and leadership in scientific research and innovation in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. At the opening of the conference, the United Nations Development Programme pre released the main findings of a research report titled "Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in the Asia Pacific Region". This study aims to reveal the status of women in the STEM field in six countries in the Asia Pacific region, and provide practical insights and policy recommendations for creating a more inclusive and fair STEM environment.
