The Golden Week: Discounted Airfares Become a Treasure Hunt Tool, Shaping New Trends in the Tourism Market
As the "Golden Week" holiday progresses, the tourism market is exhibiting new trends. According to the latest data from platforms like Ctrip, on October 3rd, the first day of the holiday, domestic scenic spot ticket orders increased by 37% year-on-year, homestay bookings increased by 55%, and outbound travel orders also saw a near 40% year-on-year growth.
In this wave of travel enthusiasm, airfare has become a critical factor influencing travelers' decisions. Data reveals that during the mid-holiday period, specifically on October 3rd and 4th, average domestic airfare prices dropped by over 30% compared to prices on September 30th and October 1st, the beginning of the holiday. This significant price reduction has presented an excellent opportunity for travelers seeking value for money.
Taking Beijing to Kunming flights as an example, the lowest airfare on October 1st was 1250 yuan (excluding tax), but by October 3rd, the price had dropped to 520 yuan (excluding tax), representing a 60% decrease. Similarly, Shanghai to Wuhan flights also saw prices plummet from 1730 yuan to 500 yuan in just a few days, a reduction exceeding 70%.
These discounted airfare deals have not only attracted a large number of travelers who initially planned to travel at the beginning of the holiday to shift their trips to off-peak days but have also inspired those who had not yet planned to travel to join the tourism wave. Fang Zeqian, an industry analyst at Ctrip Research Institute, stated: "A trend of dispersed travel is emerging, with nearby trips and treasure hunt tours bringing growth opportunities to the industry while posing new challenges to tourism businesses' operational capabilities."
During the Golden Week, ticket sales for numerous scenic spots across the country have sold out, indicating a booming domestic tourism market. Driven by factors such as long holiday travel, returning home to visit relatives, nearby getaways, and inter-city performances, the travel enthusiasm this Golden Week is expected to reach new heights. The Ministry of Transport predicts that the nationwide cross-regional passenger flow during the holiday will reach 1.94 billion trips, with an average of 277 million trips per day, representing a 0.7% increase compared to the daily average of last year and a 19.4% increase compared to the daily average of 2019.
Besides the fluctuations in airfare, various "tourism +" activities across different regions are further stimulating travel consumption. During the nationwide "Golden Week" Cultural and Tourism Consumption Month, over 3600 events will be held, totaling approximately 24,000 performances. For example, Shanghai issued consumption vouchers worth hundreds of millions of yuan for catering, accommodation, movies, and sports before the festival, while Shanxi Province provided free 100 yuan taxi vouchers to 100,000 people.
The launch of these events undoubtedly offers tourists more choices and more affordable prices.
The domestic tourism market is booming, with discounted airfares serving as a "treasure hunt" tool. Nearby trips and treasure hunt tours are becoming new trends, and "tourism +" events are further stimulating travel consumption. The Golden Week is showcasing new vitality and opportunities for the tourism market.
