Not long ago, the first backup satellite of the Beidou-3 project was successfully launched at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center. This will further improve the service performance of the BeiDou, which is of great significance for promoting the characteristic service of the Beidou system and supporting the large-scale application of the Beidou system.

On July 31, 2020, China announced that the Beidou-3 global Satellite navigation was completed and officially opened. In the past three years, China's Beidou has been committed to providing global navigation and positioning services, and multiple technologies based on Beidou have also been applied in multiple countries and regions around the world.

Beidou serves the world and the key core technology independently developed by China - inter satellite link technology - plays an important supporting role.

The Beidou satellite forms a constellation in Earth orbit. To obtain the status of a satellite in orbit, the traditional approach is to build a ground station at a corresponding location on Earth. One of the highlights of the Beidou-3 system is its ability to achieve high-precision measurement and data transmission between spacecraft through inter satellite links, enabling the Beidou-3 system to provide global services relying on domestic station deployment. Behind this, it is inseparable from the years of arduous research and development by the Space Instrument Engineering Technology Innovation Team of the University of National Defense Technology.

Intersatellite links are recognized as the technical commanding heights of the global Satellite navigation, and there are many technical difficulties: it is difficult to build a high dynamic chain - it is necessary to quickly establish links under the condition of high-speed motion between satellites; Difficulty in high-precision measurement - ranging accuracy between satellites tens of thousands of kilometers apart can reach centimeter level; High concurrency networking difficulty - there are multiple links within the constellation that do not conflict with each other; Difficulty in high stability operation - able to maintain satellite orbit and time for a long time without ground support

In 2007, Yang Jun, the head of the space instrument engineering scientific and technological innovation Team leader of the National University of Defense Technology, led the team to launch the feasibility demonstration of the intersatellite link scheme. The team conducted research on thousands of technical details, compiled dozens of design reports, and ultimately proposed an autonomous and controllable system solution.

During the development period, Yang Jun often used three words to encourage his team: be willing to sit on the "cold bench", bravely fight "impossible", and dare to venture into "unmanned areas". In 2010, Dr. Guo Xiye joined the team and was responsible for the development of inter satellite link payloads. In order to complete the task as soon as possible, he set a rule for himself: work 7 days a week, 16 hours a day

Over the past 10 years, a team of over 120 people has carried out research and developed nearly 100 sets of networking satellite inter satellite link payloads and other equipment, with a success rate of 100%; The demonstration results of the inter satellite link system scheme have also been successfully applied to all satellites and ground support facilities of the Beidou-3 system.

Yang Jun introduced that the inter satellite link has formed a network for the BeiDou system, where satellites "hold hands" and automatically "maintain formation", greatly improving satellite positioning accuracy and ensuring the global service accuracy of the BeiDou system.

We will always carry the mission of serving the country through space and continuously promote the Beidou system to provide better and better satellite navigation services for the world, "Yang Jun said.
