However, there are still problems such as high external dependence of core livestock and poultry sources, severe biosafety prevention and control situation, and weak industrial competitiveness. In response to this, the Ministry of Science and Technology has continuously increased its support for scientific and technological innovation in animal husbandry. During the 13th Five Year Plan period, a national key research and development plan for the prevention and control of major livestock and poultry diseases and the development of comprehensive technologies for efficient and safe breeding was established, which improved the level of scientific and technological innovation in the prevention and control of major livestock and poultry diseases. During the 14th Five Year Plan period, for the first time, a separate key special project was established for the cultivation of new livestock and poultry varieties and modern pasture technology innovation, striving to solve key technical problems in animal husbandry production.

The pig industry is the backbone of animal husbandry. In March 2021, the National Pig Technology Innovation Center was approved for construction by the Ministry of Science and Technology. This is the first national technology innovation center in the agricultural field in China, led by the Chongqing Academy of Animal Husbandry Sciences. In 2022, the number of pigs sold at six demonstration stations exceeded 100 million, accounting for 15% of the total number of pigs sold in China. A batch of local pig breeds such as Rongchang Pig have been effectively protected and developed for utilization.

Xin Guochang, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said that in recent years, the scale of cattle and sheep breeding in China has been continuously increasing, and the demand for high-quality forage continues to increase. Since 2015, the central government has invested a total of 14.4 billion yuan, completed the grain to feed conversion area of 114 million acres, and collected and stored 320 million tons of high-quality forage, promoting the incremental improvement of the aquaculture industry.

Relying on the Internet of Things and AI technology, the local online "Ganxiangyun" Big data platform will promote the digital breeding project of rabbit industry in Jinshan Town Xinnong Rabbit Industry Development Co., Ltd., which integrates visual portal, intelligent breeding, marketing management and rabbit source tracing. Nowadays, Xinnong Rabbit Industry produces over 600000 meat rabbits annually, with an annual output value of over 40 million yuan.

Improving aquaculture efficiency also relies on intelligent farming. At the Hu sheep breeding family farm in Shuanglin Town, Nanxun District, Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, advanced breeding equipment such as precision feeding, intelligent management and automatic cleaning are available. Zhang Kairong, Deputy Mayor of Shuanglin Town, introduced that through technological transformation and upgrading, the mechanized coverage of the entire process of breeding, birth, growth, and slaughter of Hu sheep has been achieved.
