The research team said that they have proved that Polygon mesh is a feasible robot strategy. To achieve this goal, the team must break through the boundaries of various aspects of robotics technology, including mechanical and electronic design, computer systems, and engineering. So, researchers developed the Mori3 robot, which excels in doing three things that robots can do: moving around, handling and moving objects, and interacting with users.
What are the advantages of creating modular and multifunctional robots? Parker explained that polygonal and polymorphic robots that are interconnected to create joint structures can be effectively used in various situations to perform a wider range of tasks.
The current spacecraft cannot be equipped with different robots for each individual task that needs to be performed in space. Researchers have stated that the biggest feature of Mori3 is its versatility, which was created for the purpose of "ascending to the heavens" and was partially designed for use on spacecraft. In the future, the team hopes that the Mori3 robot will be used for communication and external maintenance.
