On October 12th, the main bearing of a 8.61 meter diameter shield tunneling machine independently developed by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry was launched in Changsha. This is the largest, heaviest, and highest load-bearing integrated shield tunneling machine main bearing in the world to date. Its successful development marks that the development and industrialization capabilities of domestically produced large diameter main bearings have reached a world leading level, achieving comprehensive localization of domestic shield tunneling machine main bearings from small and medium-sized diameters to large diameters, giving the domestic shield tunneling machine a full series of "Chinese hearts".
This set of main bearings is independently developed by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Group and can be used to drive 18 meter ultra large diameter shield tunneling machines. The product is circular in shape and weighs 62 tons. It stands three stories tall and can withstand loads of over 10000 tons; Within the plane of the raceway with a diameter of over 8 meters, the flatness is less than 20 microns. Researchers have introduced that manufacturing is no less difficult than carving flowers on rice grains.
The main bearing is known as the "heart" of the shield tunneling machine. In the process of digging mountains, roads, and crossing rivers and seas, the shield tunneling machine relies on it to drive the cutter head to continuously rotate and advance. Therefore, the main bearing needs to face the extreme harsh working conditions of the shield machine, such as overload, large eccentric load, and frequency variable load. The main bearing of shield tunneling machines has been listed as one of the 35 "bottleneck" key technologies that restrict the development of China's industry, and is the "last link" in the full industrial chain of shield tunneling machines for autonomy. With the support of national ministries, local governments, and China Railway Construction Corporation's key scientific and technological projects, China Railway Construction Heavy Industry has collaborated with upstream and downstream enterprises, as well as universities to carry out collaborative research and build an internationally leading production line for shield tunneling machine main bearings, creating the world's largest main bearing working condition simulation test bench, and solving the global problem of difficult testing and verification of large low-speed and heavy-duty main bearings.
From the aspects of design, materials, manufacturing, testing, and other aspects, efforts were made in multiple directions and comprehensive breakthroughs were achieved, ultimately achieving a breakthrough in the main bearing of 8.61 meter diameter shield tunneling machines from scratch and from existence to excellence. "Liu Feixiang, the chief scientist of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Group, introduced that the research team has developed a professional calculation software for large diameter heavy-duty main bearings, tried hundreds of materials and processes, and carried out thousands of theoretical verifications and design optimizations, Through closed-loop verification and improvement of the design, manufacturing, and testing of multi specification main bearings with diameters ranging from 3 meters to 7.6 meters. In the material challenge, China Railway Construction Heavy Industry and Steel Corporation jointly developed high-performance and long-life bearing steel; In terms of manufacturing technology, it effectively solves manufacturing problems such as deformation control of thin-walled rings under super large dimensions and high-precision large modulus tooth hard milling.
