On July 11, Peking University released information that Peking University Stem Cell Center cooperated with Tianjin First Central Hospital to successfully complete the islet cell transplantation of the first international type I diabetes subject. A patient with 11 years' history of type I diabetes underwent surgery and resumed normal activities on the day after transplantation. On the 10th day after transplantation, the patient's blood sugar remained stable and their daily insulin requirement had been reduced to half of before transplantation. The transplanted islet cells will further mature in the patient's body, and the treatment effect will gradually reach a stable state within a few months after transplantation. This treatment technology is expected to become the best solution to completely cure Type 1 diabetes, which means that the incurable diabetes has the possibility of complete cure.

If we can further verify the technical reliability of stem cell transplantation for the treatment of type I diabetes, this technology is not only the gospel of 420 million diabetes patients worldwide (40 million type I patients), but also a major breakthrough in the medical technology of stem cell therapy, which is no less significant than the discovery of penicillin in the same year, and has epoch-making milestone significance in medicine.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is the highest honor that can be obtained in the field of human medicine. diabetes is the biggest chronic disease afflicting mankind in modern society. The Chinese scientists who cure type I diabetes are fully equipped with the conditions and strength to win the Nobel Prize in Medicine. For this reason, we will wait and see, and wish our scientists more and greater breakthroughs.
