The channel of the Beijing Hangzhou Canal has reached Class III, and thousand ton ships can go down from Shandong to Hangzhou directly, and enter Qiantang River through the second channel, opening up the key blocking points of the thousand ton channel network of Zhejiang inland rivers.

The second channel of the Hangzhou section of the Beijing Hangzhou Canal consists of a newly excavated waterway section and the Babao Shiplock section, with a total length of 26.4 kilometers and a total investment of 16.77 billion yuan. It started construction in December 2017 and was completed throughout the entire line in June of this year. The double track Babao Shiplock has a total design annual one-way traffic capacity of 42 million tons, which is the second water hub connecting the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal and Qiantang River after the Sanbao Shiplock on the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal.
