As China, known as the "infrastructure maniac" in the world today, its achievements in high-speed rail have also attracted worldwide attention and have been widely recognized globally.

However, the towering trees catch the wind, and some people have raised doubts about this, saying that although China's high-speed rail is successful, it relies on Japan's imported never loosening nuts, and in this regard, China is still "stuck in the neck" by Japan.

Where does this statement come from? Is the content true again? Would China's high-speed rail not be strong without this Japanese made nut?

Can 'never loosen the nut' really not loosen?

The phrase 'never loosen' is just an exaggerated commercial slogan. Actually, no nut can truly 'never loosen'.

Taking China's high-speed rail as an example, in order to ensure the safety of high-speed operation at 350 kilometers per hour, it is necessary to use specially designed locking nuts to fix the rail. The design inspiration for this type of nut comes from the ancient Chinese mortise and tenon structure, which enhances fastening through a convex and concave design.

Mortise and tenon structure

The specific method is to use two different nuts on a screw, with a concave nut on top and an eccentrically machined convex nut on the bottom. The combination of the two can form a strong locking effect and reduce the probability of loosening.

Never loosen the nut

But we cannot forget that any material that is subjected to vibration and load for a long time will experience fatigue. Metals are no exception. Even the best nut will loosen after long-term use. Due to uneven force distribution, the heat generated during high-speed operation can also affect the structural strength of the nut.

In addition, defects in the manufacturing process can also become hidden dangers. Even carefully designed nuts may become loose during use if there are problems with forging, heat treatment, and other processes.

Maintenance is equally important. If tightening is not checked regularly, there is a possibility of any nut loosening. It's like we need to regularly check and add oil when driving. Even if the car itself is good, not refueling for a long time can cause problems.

So, there is no such thing as a 'never loose' nut. This statement is just a commercial packaging and marketing tool. It can only be said that these specially designed nuts can greatly reduce the probability of nut loosening, but it does not necessarily mean that they can never loosen.

This type of nut is also available in China

Never loosen the nut

However, the use of this type of nut in China is extremely small, accounting for only about 1%. The reason why our country introduced this type of nut is only because its technology was relatively mature at that time, the price was also relatively reasonable, and the cost-effectiveness was high. It is not that we cannot make it.

As early as 2002, Chinese craftsmen had already mastered the core technology of nut manufacturing and developed a self-locking lock nut. This nut not only can prevent loosening for a long time, but also adapt to various harsh usage environments. When building the Qinghai Tibet Railway, China used this domestically produced lock nut.

The Qinghai Tibet Railway spans 550 kilometers of permafrost on the plateau, facing the effects of thermal expansion, contraction, and severe vibration caused by low temperatures. However, the anti loosening nuts developed in China have successfully overcome these difficulties.

It not only effectively resists thermal expansion and contraction, but also achieves long-term maintenance free, and there have been no nut loosening incidents so far. This is mainly attributed to the unique anti loosening structure design of the nut.

This type of lock nut consists of two threads, with the upper section being a left-hand thread and the lower section being a right-hand thread. The two threads rotate in opposite directions, just like "balancing each other".

When vibration occurs, the lower right-hand thread will slightly loosen, but the direction of the loosening will be tightened by the upper left-hand thread, cleverly offsetting the effect of loosening. This structural design fully utilizes the characteristics of threads, making it both simple and efficient.

During the design of the nut, Chinese engineering and technical personnel conducted extensive calculations, analysis, and multiple experimental tests, repeatedly optimizing the structural scheme, in order to finally determine this unique double threaded design.

This fully demonstrates the wisdom and creativity of Chinese R&D personnel. They did not mechanically copy foreign technology, but based on their national conditions, independently innovated and overcame one technical problem after another.

In the harsh environment of the plateau, the anti loosening nuts made in China have withstood the test and proved their quality and reliability through practical actions. In other fields, China is also at the forefront of technology.

China's "Fuxing"

So, China is fully capable of independently developing and manufacturing high-quality high-speed rail nuts. The claim that the nuts are "stuck in the neck" by Japan is simply untenable. China not only produces excellent nuts, but also occupies a leading position in cutting-edge technology fields such as high-speed rail. This fully demonstrates the strength and innovation capability of Chinese manufacturing.

Where did the rumor come from?

The early claim that "China's high-speed rail is supported by Japanese Hadlock nuts" has been widely circulated on the internet, causing public concern and questioning. In response to this matter, it is necessary for this article to deeply analyze the sources of rumors and restore the truth.

The origin of this rumor can be traced back to an interview article published on the Japanese website nippon.com in December 2011. This article provides a positive report on the nut products of Japan's Hadlock Industry, aiming to promote their excellent anti loosening performance. It should be emphasized that the original text did not mention China's high-speed rail.

However, an article titled "Unveiling the Shame Cloth of Independent Intellectual Property Rights of High Speed Rail" appeared afterwards, creating the illusion that China's high-speed rail relies on Japanese technology by taking out of context and intentionally misreading the original text. The article adopts inflammatory language with the intention of inciting opposing emotions.

In fact, this method of taking out of context completely peels off the original meaning of the text, and is a typical method of generalizing and reversing black and white. China's high-speed rail selects components based on the principle of "performance optimization" and will not overly rely on a single supplier from any country.

At that time, the official platforms "Shanghai Anti Rumor" and "Pengpai News" also published specialized articles to refute those who took out of context and had ulterior motives.

In fact, such criticisms of China's technological innovation capabilities have always existed. For example, in the past, there was a narrow view that China could not produce ballpoint pens. This narrow view ignored the significant progress of China's technological strength, and anyone who questioned us will eventually be criticized by reality.

So the claim that "China's high-speed rail relies on Japanese nuts" is baseless, at best a malicious rumor created by someone with ulterior motives, with the aim of misleading the public and undermining China's confidence in technological innovation. In the face of such rumors, the public must maintain rationality and insight, not be confused by them, continue to support the development of China's science and technology industry, and participate in the process of scientific and technological innovation through practical actions.
